Susan and Miss Scarlet
Situated on almost four acres, I am located in small country community just a bit north and east of the greater Dallas, Texas area. Our family of Beardies, Havanese, a Frenchie and a Newfie enjoy the vast spaces to explore, run, and play on while helping us attend to our other four legged and two legged, non-canine, family members. From Pork Chop and Little Pig, the dynamic duo of pigs, our dogs are well socialized with the vast array of animals they share their lives with here on the farm.
As a breeder and exhibitor of Bearded Collies since 1989 followed in recent years by Havanese, French Bulldogs, and a Newfie, I pride myself on only breeding the best to the best for soundness, type, health and exceptional temperaments. Each dog is a treasured member of our family and raised in a secure and loving environment within our home. Stud service is available to approved quality bitches on a contract basis. Puppies are occasionally available to approved homes and are sold on a non-negotiable contract only.
To ensure the health and well being of all our dogs, I CERF for eyes, OFA for hips and elbows, and thyroid (Hemopet/Dr. Dodds) test each one prior to any dog being used in my breeding program.
Other tests for Havanese, Frenchies and Newfies are done in accordance with their Parent Club recommendations prior to breeding.
I am a long time member of the Bearded Collie Club of America (BCCA), and the Bearded Collie Club of Canada (BCCC), and am a Past President of the BCCA. I was honored in 2003 by the BCCA as Member of the Year for my years of service and dedication for the benefit of the breed. I am an approved breed mentor as well as serving on several committees for the BCCA, the past editor of the BCCA monthly newsletter, The Bagpipes, and the past columnist for the AKC Gazette for Bearded Collies. In 2004, I had the distinct honor of judging Sweepstakes at our National Specialty held in Fort Collins, Colorado, and have been selected to judge Sweeps again in 2012 for this same event. I also had the distinct honor to judge Sweepstakes at the Bearded Collie Club of Canada National Specialty in 2011.
I am a member in good standing with the Texas Kennel Club where I am currently serving a three year term on the Board of Directors, the Bearded Collie Club of Texas (BCCT) of which I am a Past President, the Havanese Club of America, the French Bulldog Dog of America, the Canadian Kennel Club, and the Lone Star Flock Tending Shepherds. I am currently serving as a Trustee and hold the office of Treasurer with the Bearded Collie Education and Rescue Trust (BCERT), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established for Bearded Collie rescue and educational purposes. I also am a member of the Arabian Horse Association and the American Donkey and Mule Society.
Last, but certainly not least, without the love and support of my husband and best friend for almost 36 years before his death in 2009, Brandmar would not exist. While he was always my biggest fan and in the early days was the official “Gofur” at the shows for me, he just loved the dogs for the companions they were, never for what they might have accomplished in the show ring as it should always be. Hope for a cure! |
